A common misconception about dropouts is that they have given up on being an artist, or that they just don't have what it takes to be one professionally. This is untrue, and there are successful artists out there proving it. We all have different reasons for dropping out, but what it comes down to is that there are many paths we can choose, and the art school path is not the one for us.

We respect and support all artists, regardless how they choose their path. We are not encouraging anyone to quit school, or discouraging anyone to go. We are not necessarily anti-art school, but pro-dropout. This group exists specifically to join those who have already been through the experience of attending and leaving an art institution, those who couldn't even afford the tuition, & those who made the decision to remain self-taught. One of the most important advantages art students get over dropouts is networking, but we can change that by networking on our own & supporting each other.


WHAT WE DO
Currently we are self-publishing the comics Selenophobic ([link]) & The Nutzillio Bros. Eventually we want to put together a zine including artwork, comics, photography, & writing by the people in our collective. MASD is all about helping artists get exposure, and encouraging each other to keep creating.


HOW TO JOIN
You do not necessarily need to be a dropout, or be from Milwaukee in order to join MASD. This is a collective of people who wish to help artists survive & thrive, and many of us just happen to have dropped out of a Milwaukee art school. If you are an artist in the city who needs exposure, or just someone who wants to get exposed to some awesome artwork, join! Just send us a note with your request & add our icon to your journal.


SUBMITTING ARTWORK
Although you do not need to be a dropout to join, because MASD's purpose is to provide networking & promotion for those who do not have college degrees, you must either have dropped out of an art school or opted not to go to one in order to have your work added to the gallery.
